December is well under way.
It marks the festive season and everything that comes with it… Christmas indulgence, work parties and gatherings of family and friends.
In December there are food and festivities literally everywhere you look.
And traditionally it’s the month of the year you’re prone to “over indulge“. Or as I prefer to think of it… prone to having a really great time and not giving a damn about it till later.
But do you actually gain weight over the holiday period? Or is it an urban myth?
Sadly, for many of us December does translate into weight gain.
The extra wobble you’re imagining around you waist isn’t just in your head.

As you can see studies have even proven December to be the month of the year where the biggest weight gain occurs.
Not only that but the weight you put on over December is weight you’re unlikely to lose over the rest of the year.
Which means every year you’re getting a little bit heavier.
But it’s not all doom and gloom.
It’s possible to make it through December without moving up a jeans size or being Debbie Downer and saying no to that extra piece of Pavlova or Christmas cake.
To help navigate the abundance of food over the Christmas break the simplest trick to keep your weight gain to a minimum is to drink water.
Yep, drinking plain old tap water.
All you need to do is keep hydrated with water over the month of December and you’ll survive the silly season without massive weight gain.
Quite simply drinking water has been proven to make you feel fuller so you don’t eat or drink as much.
But starting a new habit right in the thick of the silly season can be tough.
