This is your brain on drugs….
Actually, this is a healthy and delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner packed full of the protein your body needs.
As funny as it probably was at the time (I remember having a similar picture to this on the back of my 1B5s at school), believe it or not, this advert was reported to have reduced the number of children eating eggs.
No kidding right?
The truth is actually… eggs are an egg-cellent choice when it comes to boosting your daily protein intake (oh yeah I did).
No seriously, they are one of the best sources of complete protein you can eat (“complete” meaning they contain all nine essential amino acids you can only get from eating food).
One large egg contains ~6g of protein. And egg yolks are one of the few foods that are a naturally good source of Vitamin D.
A quick pro-top I use for boosting protein consumption is to add egg whites to my omelette or to have an egg white omelette on its own. You can buy them pre-packaged from the supermarket. By mixing eggs and egg whites together you can get a protein-boosted breakfast (30-40g of protein) which will keep you full throughout the day.
Using egg whites also means you won’t go overboard on your fat intake (egg yolks are where all the fat in eggs comes from).
And just so you know… eggs aren’t bad for you (the 90s really sucked for nutrition advice… like the clothing). It’s perfectly fine to eat several eggs a day if you feel that way inclined.
